It is with great honor and profound pleasure that I welcome you to North Minahasa—a region blessed with breathtaking natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, and a deep commitment to sustainable development. Your presence here today is a testament to the enduring partnership between the European Union and Indonesia, and a clear demonstration of our shared dedication to marine conservation, climate resilience, and community empowerment.
This visit holds special significance as it allows us to showcase the tangible outcomes of our collaborative efforts. Your Excellencies will have the opportunity to witness firsthand the open-and-close fisheries management system near Gangga Dua, community engagement initiatives in Lihunu, community-based tourism and homestays, coral reef monitoring activities, mangrove management in Bahoi, and direct dialogue with local community groups. These activities reflect a fundamental truth: our communities are not merely beneficiaries of conservation programs—they are the driving forces and key actors behind sustainable development and environmental stewardship.

Your Excellencies, Ladies and Gentlemen,
Allow me to also share with you a source of great pride for our region. North Minahasa has recently been selected as one of the five global finalists for the United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) Peace Prize 2026 in Tangier, Morocco. This prestigious international recognition affirms our steadfast commitment to peace, tolerance, interfaith harmony, inclusive governance, and social cohesion. It is a testament to the spirit of our people and the values we uphold as a region.

We sincerely hope that this visit will not only deepen your understanding of our initiatives but also strengthen long-term cooperation between North Minahasa, the European Union, KfW, WCS, the Government of Indonesia, and the Government of North Sulawesi Province—particularly in the areas of marine conservation, blue economy development, sustainable tourism, climate resilience, and youth climate leadership.
—
Once again, I extend my warmest welcome to each and every one of you. May your visit be productive, inspiring, and memorable. May the bonds of friendship and cooperation between us grow ever stronger.
